Dell OptiPlex 780 PC
Thursday, October 8, 2009 20:11The Dell OptiPlex 780 is the company’s new business PC, featuring Intel technology.
The system is based on the Intel Q45 chipset and features an Intel Core 2 Quad, Core 2 Duo, Pentium Dual Core or Celeron CPU and up to 8GB of Non-ECC DDR3 1066MHz memory. The OptiPlex 780 is configurable with up to two 3.5- or 2.5-inch storage units, including standard hard drives and solid state drives. The drives can be configured without RAID or in RAID 0 and 1 modes. Optical drive options include a DVD ROM or a DVD burner, but the system can be also configured without optical device.
Regarding graphics, the PC uses the Intel GMA 4500 integrated graphics with a VGA port and optional adapter card with a DVI port, or one of the following dedicated ATI GPUs with 256MB of VRAM: the ATI Radeon HD 3450 (2 VGA /1 TV-out), Radeon HD 3450 (2 DVI /1 TV-out), and Radeon HD 3470 (2 DisplayPort or 1 DisplayPort / 1 DVI).
For networking, there are an on-board Gigabit LAN port, an optional Gigabit LAN card, and an optional 802.11n wireless card.
Along with various display outputs that depend on video card configuration, ports and slots include 8 USB connectors, a Parallel, a Serial, and an eSATA port, as well as a Firewire port via an optional controller card.
The Windows Vista-based PC can be configured with Intel vPro technology, providing advanced remote system management, while for enhanced security customers can choose the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 1.2 chip and optional full disk encryption on select hard drives.
The OptiPlex 780 is available in three form factors: Mini Tower, Desktop, and Small Form Factor. Besides different chassis sizes and weight, the three versions have different number of media bays and expansion slots, as well as different power supplies. Also, the Mini Tower uses full-height video cards, whereas the Desktop and SFF models come with low-profile cards. The Desktop additionally supports full height card via an optional riser.
The Dell OptiPlex 780 Mini Tower and OptiPlex 780 Desktop have a base price of $544, while the OptiPlex 780 Small Form Factor starts at $564. The prices include 3 Year Basic Limited Warranty and 3 Year NBD (Next Business Day) On-Site Service.
