Dell and Microsoft have announced the availability and support of Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 on Dell’s complete line of 64-bit PowerEdge servers and PowerVault, EqualLogic and Dell|EMC storage solutions.
The companies say that with Dell and SQL Server 2008 R2 solutions IT organizations can centrally manage critical, company-wide data assets in a secure manner.
“Other key product highlights on SQL Server 2008 R2 include:
- Users can quickly transform huge quantities of data into meaningful information by being able to import this data into Excel and Microsoft SharePoint Server for a familiar user experience.
- Utilize support for Windows Server 2008 R2, including Hyper-V with Live Migration to consolidate and virtualize IT environments.
- Data warehouse scalability from tens to hundreds of terabytes through massively parallel processing . With this release SQL server can support up to 256 logical processors allowing for more applications to run on a single large server.
- SQL Server Control Point provides a single location for managing and deploying applications while providing centralized views over resource utilization on both physical and virtual machines.
- Data-tier application support allows for easier developing, deploying, and managing of databases. Data-tier applications provide a single unit for authoring, deploying, and managing the data-tier objects instead of having to manage them separately.
- Microsoft does not price per-core for multi-core processors giving users added savings on licensing costs.”
The solution enables a single point of contact, meaning that Dell services provide full support for both Dell hardware and SQL Server 2008 R2.
