Autodesk Unveils AutoCAD for Mac – Desktops and Notebooks

Autodesk is releasing AutoCAD for Mac software, returning to the Apple platform after 18 years. In addition to a version running natively on Mac OS X, Autodesk also plans on releasing an AutoCAD WS mobile application for iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch.

AutoCAD allows illustration-minded professionals, including engineers and architects, to draft and edit 2D and 3D models. The Mac version will be available before the fourth quarter of 2010, according to the company, and cost either $3,995 without a support subscription of $4,445 with one.

Google’s new VoIP voice and video chat now uses the mobile phones. Until now, it required both people to be at their PCs, but this new option makes you mobile and lets you free of spending all day in front of your computers. Any Gmail user will be able to call anyone right from the Gmail account. As Google announced, calls to the U.S. and Canada will be free for at least rest of the year, whereas, calls to other countries will charge very low rates as little as $0.02 per minute.

AT&T has announced that new and existing virtual private network VPN customers could add VoIP to their service over AT&T’s global network cloud. The addition to the VPN service signals the growing need to consolidate companies’ voice and data networks. AT&T business customers can pick between two solutions: AT&T’s IP Flexible Reach SIP trunking service–which allows businesses to leverage their existing IP-PBXs, while taking advantage of new IP-based services–or AT&T Voice DNA which is a fully hosted network-based service. The VoIP service is certified to interoperate with major IP-PBX systems, including Microsoft, so it can work in conjunction with a business’ existing phone system.

Verizon Launches ZTE Salute Phone

Chinese mobile phone maker ZTE is expanding into the US market by launching its Salute handset on Verizon’s network. The deal is the first mobile agreement ZTE has made with a top US wireless carrier.ZTE is also said to be in talks with other US mobile operators, including Sprint and T-Mobile to sell its devices.According to company executives, the Salute feature phone will be available for a two year contract of $19.99 per month.

Canonical Offers Cloud Computing Based Virtual DB2 Appliance for Ubuntu

Back in 2005, IBM’s DB2 database software was among the first major enterprise applications to be certified to run on Ubuntu Linux. Five years later, the partnership is expanding, with IBM’s DB2 being packaged by Canonical to run as a virtual appliance instance of Ubuntu running in the cloud.

The new IBM DB2 appliance partnership comes as Canonical is ramping up its cloud efforts for both public and private clouds.
